The global e-learning market will reach $400B in 2026, twice as much as it was in 2019. The education industry today is facing a major challenge to study effectively online.
Customer
Our customer, the Center of Nondestructive Testing, has already trained more than 10,000 NDT operators and anticipates an even greater growth of its audience by offering online services. For this Center we developed a web portal for VR training NDT operators. At its core is a virtual simulation package for ultrasonic equipment.
The solution based on mathematical models of ultrasonic wave propagation offers an authentic experience with realistic physics and helps students really feel what they do. The algorithm for generating random defects makes the studying process truly effective: interactivity, engagement and visual representation. Students will experience more than 1000 training scenarios generated by this algorithm.
Web portal functionality
On the web portal, students can:
- Get to know nondestructive test instrument interfaces of a flaw detector and a thickness gauge;
- Learn to assess the extent of corrosive and erosive wear and find internal defects, identifying their types, dimensions, depths, and degree of hazard;
- Master product inspection for compliance with regulatory requirements;
- Take a mock exam before undergoing in-person certification. The results are assembled automatically. An instructor then grades them, and either assigns a final score or returns the exam for retesting.
Each stage of the training features a detailed description and tips for next steps to take. The web portal also has personal accounts for students and teachers where users can track their progress and complete assignments.
Implementation results
The Center of Nondestructive Testing anticipates moving to a new business model and increasing student enrollment by 50%. The portal is scheduled to launch in 2023.
Customer's feedback
To learn how to use a flaw detector or thickness gauge now, all you need to do is open a browser tab. Our detailed simulator complex is in no way inferior to the actual instruments. And the students train individually, which improves the quality of knowledge and skills they gain. We are grateful to Rubius for executing the project and look forward to further successful cooperation.
